It was so special to revisit San Miguel. My Dad's side of the family has a long history of adventuring in Mexico, and we're blessed that several of them were also prolific writers, leaving wonderfully told tales to inspire the rest of us. Here are a few pictures that capture a bit of the family history, but they only go back as far as I do.
My first trip to Mexico, January 1976. I was six months old! |
The cactus garden from the last picture has been turned into a swimming pool! |
This is "Granny's Bench" and for years it sat in her garden. It's now been moved up the hill to Su Casa, the home built by my grandparents as a gift to their family. |
Geraniums at Granny's grave. |
Looking through the gates into the cemetery. |
This pink peppercorn tree grows above Granny's grave. I have pepper from this tree in my cupboard. |
With a whole pile of cousins. My Gramps was a tomato farmer, and someone made us all these little tomato outfits. |
Great story and pictures... and I think I may have had a hand in those outfits. I was a sewing fool in those days and whipped out outfits like that till Matt needed zippers and flys and then I quit. It was fun making things like that for the kids. Terry made wonderful Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls and mother made the oldest group or two quilts.. then there were just too many kids coming along. Brings back lots of good memories of those days and today we are experiencing lots of new ones. So glad you all could go to Su Casa!

So I see that Pearl is the spitting image of you! What a wonderful time and memories!
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures and so many memories... I'm so glad you could take your family to this most special place and share it with them. Don't forget the Pooh Bears that I made for the 1st gen of kids (and yes, it got to be too many to do for all)... I did make ONE more, nearly 29 years ago for my Kristen and we still have it :)... Love your pictures and stories and YOU Rebeca, Katy
ReplyDeleteRebeca you did a beautiful job putting these groups of pictures together. So many resemble the generations, I guess you are all special, at least in our eyes you all are. Love to you all!!!!!!! Grams~
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your family photos and history! Of course, I love the first one with your young parents. So sweet! How wonderful for your children to spend time with their cousins in a place that has such a rich family history.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos! I can tell how much your children look like you from seeing photos of you as a child. :)
